Shipsonic's two person delegation to the PortPIC conference came back to work recharged.ย Anne Marie van Swinderen's top paper was by Pascal Guth of Danish Technology Institute. particularly his interesting findings around having to balance between soft and hard cleaning. Too soft cleaning risks not removing all the biofilm and the fouling regrowing fast. Too hard cleaning risks damaging the coating and also leads to regrowing fast. Altogether the biofouling reestablished much faster after cleaning than when the coating was first applied - originally it took quite long for the biofouling to establish.

This reconfirms Shipsonic's test findings. Just a tiny bit of biofilm is sufficient to get fouling to settle and turn into macro fouling. Now guess, how to prevent that little starter of biofilm... that's what we are good at.
