Surprises from India market research-1

As part of our market research on India, we have been analysing the cooling systems used across different types of vessels.

One of the most interesting findings is the significant presence of box coolers.

Our analysis shows roughly:

• 40% plate coolers

• 25% shell-and-tube coolers

• 25% box coolers

• 10% keel coolers

We normally hear ‘no, there are hardly any box coolers in India’ but in reality box coolers account for around one quarter of the vessels in our analysis.

One possible explanation we are exploring is the significant second-life vessel market in India. Tugs, in particular, are often purchased from Europe, where box-cooler systems are more commonly found.

This is one of the interesting findings emerging from our research into the Indian maritime market. 

We are curious to see what other surprises the research will bring.
