In this brochure Shipsonic gives a cost comparison between USAF (ultrasonic anti-fouling) and ICAF (impressed current anti-fouling). USAF is often perceived as more costly. However, if you consider the life-time of Shipsonic’s USAF systems, they work out much more economical. Of course, there are many other reasons to prefer Shipsonic’s USAF: no through hull wiring, no risk of galvanic corrosion. And last but not least; USAF is poison free and forgoes substantial pollution of the seas: ICAF is responsible for an estimated 400 million kgs of copper ions pollution annually.
