Vessel name

MV Jumbo Vision

MV Jumbo Fairpartner Vessel type

Heavy lift vessels

Installation date

January - february 2025

System

3x DP20 control unit, 30x 80W + 30x 100W transducer

Application

Box-coolers

Both these ship's engine cooling systems consist of 10 box coolers, of make NRF. Originally, antifouling protection was based on ICAF anodes under each boxcooler in its separate sea chest compartment. Over the years, installation and maintenance revealed growing expenses, and strong corrosion developed on the sea chest plates to which the coolers are mounted.

Owner Jumbo has always been at the forefront of technical developments, and for the dry docking in December 2024, it was decided to switch from ICAF to Shipsonic Ultrasound MGPS.

At the shipyard in Setubal, the coolers were dismantled and taken to the workshop for cleaning and removing the anodes with their wiring. There, the flanges for the transducers were welded on all the covers. At the same time, the corroded plating was renewed, the sea chests were painted and large-capacity zinc anodes were installed around each cooler compartment.

The cleaned coolers were re-installed with 60 flanges for thirty 80W and thirty 100W Shipsonic transducers. Three MDP20 control units control all 60 transducers. A Shipsonic technician worked closely with the yard personnel and the ship's crew during the installation. This ensured that the ultrasonic system was fully functional already before the launch, which is critical for fouling prevention. With this, Jumbo Vision and Jumbo Fairpartner are assured of fouling-free sailing!
