Here he discusses why Shipsonic doesn't provide all these frills, including remote control of the system.

So the answer boils down to: remote connectivity is very hard on vessels, because the control units are deep down in the engine rooms, wifi and mobile networks don't reach there. So basically such remote connectivity doesn't function. Moreover, it is not useful, it just causes confusion.

So if you want a robust system that works no matter what, then Shipsonic is your friend.
