Scaling on process piping is not only a marine problem. At the Citrique Belge site, scale formation inside an outdoor ISO DN200 pipeline was a significant challenge. When the daily cleaning cycle was skipped once, the fluid level in the tank reached its maximum.

To investigate the potential of ultrasonic technology for this application, Shipsonic set up a dedicated test installation on the pipe, consisting of an IP67-rated outdoor control unit with 30-metre cables and four ultrasonic transducers.

Following initial discussions in July 2021, the control unit was delivered to Citrique Belge's Sint-Truidensesteenweg address in September, followed by preparations for the installation. Between January and February 2022, four 80 W / 23 kHz transducers with installation rings were mounted on the pipe.
