Seachest strainer and cross-over pipe
WES GESA (IMO 9504061) is equipped with a Shipsonic ultrasonic anti-fouling system (USAF) protecting its sea water intake system. The system has 3 control units and 18 transducers, each rated at 80 W, 20.5 kHz and IP67. The transducers are installed as follows: 4 on the lower sea chest strainers, 4 on the upper sea chest strainers, 2 on the lower sea chest, 2 on the upper sea chest, and 4 on the cross-over pipe.
All control units, including cooling fans, PCB fuses, power switch LEDs and transducer signal LEDs, were checked, and the signal to the transducers was tested at each outgoing connector. All 18 transducers were verified for welding rings, installation and cable connections, and each was activated individually to confirm its audible sound.
Ultrasonic Sound Pressure Level (SPL) was measured in the substrate at approximately 10 cm from each transducer, using the Shipsonic Ultratester 1.3 and a Reson TC 4013 ultrasonic microphone.
